What is a C3 Pilot (in a few words)?

A certification which makes you a measurably better pilot, increases your confidence and reduces your insurance costs.

Could you explain in a bit more detail?

Sure. We’ve developed a programme for GA pilots in New Zealand.

Our programme ensures that you are certified, current and more competent when you fly. C3 Pilots have increased confidence in their own flying. They are actively reducing risk, and their premiums go down.

Our overall aim is to increase safety for you and your passengers, reduce the risk of incidents and accidents, and help you enjoy flying even more.

That sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch?

There is no catch. That’s the brilliance of becoming a C3Pilot.

You become a measurably better pilot, with increased confidence behind the controls, and you pay much less for your insurance cover for your aircraft.

How does the programme do this?

C3 Pilot focuses on two key components to help you become a better pilot. Competency and currency.

C3 Pilots show competency by completing an Off Airport Review (OAR) to begin the program. In between BFR’s, each C3 Pilot completes an OAR.

Checked annually, C3 Pilots are comprehensively reviewed by certified instructors every year.

Tell me more about the Off Airport Review (OAR)?

Designed for normal off-airport operations, the OAR focusses on:

  1. Developing options / decision making
  2. Operating with margin / managing risk
  3. Handling techniques. Slow flight and stall awareness
  4. Airstrip assessment
  5. Stable approaches
That sounds complicated. How do I keep on top of all of this?

Easy. There’s a digital, cloud based tool which C3 Pilots subscribe to. The tool tracks your currency, and your performance is automatically monitored.

You don’t need any special equipment. Just your phone, and your finger tip!

So how does this bring my premiums down?

We have already negotiated a significant discount off your premiums with our insurance partner Crombie Lockwood. Because they know that C3 Pilots need to be current, competent and tracking their progress via the online tool, they’re happy to reduce the premiums you have to pay.

They’re happy to do this because you are taking proactive, measurable steps to be a safer pilot.

How much will my premiums reduce?

On average, premiums will come down around 10-15 percent, but it varies a little from aircraft to aircraft. The good news is, all C3 Pilots save signifcantly.

So what does this cost me?

Because the C3 Pilot subscription is paid out as a small proportion of your agreed aircraft hull value, the savings are significant and it costs you nothing overall. That’s because you will save WAY more in reduced insurance premiums than the C3 Pilot subscription fee.
